These invasive animals are not native to the state and therefore pose a problem to the native flora and fauna that reside naturally in the state of Texas. The past few decades their population has exploded, and they have become a major issue for farmers and ranchers throughout Texas.
Hog hunters can play a crucial role in controlling the wild hog population by hunting them. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department encourages hog hunting and has even made it legal to hunt them year-round. Some Texas counties even offer a bounty for each wild hog killed, as a way to incentivize hunters to help control the population.
